RELATIONS WITH THE
KINGDOM OF BAHRAIN

Relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kingdom of Bahrain were established in May, 1992.

Remarkable point of the development of bilateral relations was the first official visit of the President of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev to Bahrain in 1997. During this visit Sheikh Issa bin Salman Al Khalifa expressed the willingness of authorities of Bahrain to encourage local and foreign banks to cooperate with Kazakhstan and to create legislative base for such cooperation.

In 1998 the delegation of the Trade and Commerce Chamber of Bahrain visited Almaty where they had negotiations with their counterparts of the Trade and Commerce Chamber of Kazakhstan, attended some places of their interest – Business Centre, Customs Department, office of the national carrier Air Kazakhstan Company and other.

The proposal of Kazakhstan to establish the branches of Kazakhstan and Bahrain banks correspondingly in Manama and Astana met the interest of financiers of Bahrain.

During the trade exhibition of GCC member-states in Almaty in 1999 the number of companies from Bahrain actively took part.

In October, 2002 the delegation of representatives of National Bank of Kazakhstan visited Bahrain regarding the invitation of Bahrain Monetary Agency for study of experience of the Kingdom’s banking and finance system.

Kazakhstan with appreciation marks the economy success of the Kingdom of Bahrain in some spheres and is really interested in research of the Bahrain’s experience in banking and finance system, oil refinery, diversification of economy, attraction of tourists and others.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Bahrain Saleh As-Saleh to the Republic of Kazakhstan with residence in Ankara presented the Letters of Credence to the Secretary of State Mr. O. Abdykarimov on May 13, 2004.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Mussinov to the Kingdom of Bahrain with residence in Riyadh presented the Letters of Credence to His Majesty Khamad bin Issa Al Khalifa on December 31, 2003.

During the mentioned meeting the King marked the interest of Bahraini side to promote the extension of legal base between two countries especially in the fields of economic cooperation, investment protection. Kazakh diplomat mentioned the importance of interaction within the financial and banking sector.

His Majesty expressed the willingness to visit Kazakhstan. In this connection Kazakh side has sent the invitation to King Khamad bin Issa Al Khalifa to make official visit to Kazakhstan during 2005-2006. Similar invitation was sent to Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmad bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

After the changes in the Cabinet of the Ministers of Bahrain on April 26, 2005 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan sent his congratulations and invitation to make official visit to Kazakhstan addressed to the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain Sheikh Khaleed bin Akhmad bin Muhammed Al Khalifa.

On October 25, 2005 in his official reply Sheikh Khaleed bin Akhmad bin Muhammed Al Khalifa expressed his gratitude and appreciation over the invitation to visit Kazakhstan. Terms of the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain would be approved through the diplomatic channels during 2006.
