NATIONAL DAY OF KAZAKHSTAN CELEBRATED IN RIYADH

Mekkah, December 18, 2005 - Embassy
On December 18, 2005 Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan conducted the Official Reception to commemorate the 14th Anniversary of Kazakhstan Independence in the Tuwaiq Palace, Diplomatic Quarter.

Big number of the representatives of official bodies, commercial institutes, mass media and intellectuals of Saudi Arabia along with the Ambassadors, Deputy Heads of Missions and Defense Attach?s honored the event organized by the Embassy.

Photo-exhibition related to the Official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan H.E. N.Nazarbayev on March, 2004 as well as video demonstration about Kazakhstan were shown to the guests.



KAZAKH DELEGATION PARTICIPATED IN THIRD EXTRAORDINARY SUMMIT OF OIC

Mekkah, December 8, 2005 - Embassy
On December 7-8, 2005 in Makkah Kazakh delegation headed by the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan H.E. Askar Mussinov took part in the Third Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of Islamic Conference. Summit was organized on initiative of the Custodian of Two Holy Mosques, King of Saudi Arabia Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Number of important resolutions on the consolidation of Islamic Countries along with the Programme of Action to Meet the Challenges Facing Islamic Ummah was adopted during the Summit.



KAZAKH DELEGATION TOOK PART IN SECOND WORLD SUMMIT OF GENERAL PROSECUTORS IN DOHA, QATAR

Second World Summit of General Attorneys, General Prosecutors and Chief Prosecutors was held in Doha, Qatar on November 14-16, 2005.

Kazakhstan was represented by the delegation headed by the Deputy General Prosecutor of the Republic of Kazakhstan Merey Vaissov and Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Qatar Askar Mussinov.

Head of Kazakh delegation M.Vaissov made a statement during Plenary. He appealed to his colleagues to boost cooperation of prosecutors offices under the aegis of the United Nations Organization. He mentioned cooperation in the framework of the Coordination Council of CIS and General Prosecutors’ Council of the Shanghai Organization of Cooperation as positive examples of regional cooperation.

During Summit Kazakh delegation was received by the Prime Minister of Qatar Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Meeting of the Deputy General Prosecutor of the Republic of Kazakhstan Merey Vaissov and the Attorney-General of Qatar Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al-Marri also took place. Perspectives of the development of cooperation of prosecutors’ offices as well as the adoption of agreement on cooperation between offices and intergovernmental agreement on legal assistance were discussed.



KAZAKH AMBASSADOR MET UAE DEFENSE MINISTER, CROWN PRINCE OF DUBAI SHEIKH MOHAMMED BIN RASHED AL MAKTOUM

Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan A. Mussinov was received by the Defense Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashed Al Maktoum on October 22, 2005 in Dubai.

Kazakh diplomat congratulated His Highness with the Holy Month of Ramadan.

They discussed the ways of further development of bilateral cooperation and the upcoming visit of Sheikh Mohammed to Kazakhstan which is to be held during November, 2005.



KAZAKH AMBASSADOR A.MUSSINOV PRESENTED CREDENTIALS IN QATAR

Riyadh, October 2, 2005 - Embassy
On October 2, 2005 in Doha A.Mussinov presented Credentials to the Deputy Amir, High Apparent of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Khamad bin Khalifa Al Thani as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the State of Qatar with residence in Riyadh.

During the conversation, Ambassador A.Mussinov expressed greetings on behalf of the President of RK N.Nazarbayev to His Highness Amir of Qatar Sheikh Khamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. He mentioned, that President N.Nazarbayev warmly recalls the meetings with the Amir of Qatar which were held during his first official visit to Qatar in 1998 as well as the official Amiri visit to Kazakhstan in 1999.

Kazakh Ambassador underlined the importance of the mentioned visits which established the basis of mutually beneficial cooperation and development of relations of two countries. On behalf of Kazakhstan authorities he expressed gratitude to the Government of Qatar for the assistance extended for the construction of new capital – Astana and Cultural Centre “Nur-Astana” in particular.

Kazakh diplomat informed on the upcoming Presidential Elections in Kazakhstan on December 4, 2005 and emphasized strong intention of Kazakhstan to promote just and transparent of the mentioned elections as well as its accordance with the international standards. Particularly he noted the statement of the President of RK concerning his aspiration to do his best in order ensure the independent, fair and transparent upcoming elections which result could not cause any doubts of Kazakhstan citizens and international community as well.

A.Mussinov told Qatari Officials about important initiatives of the Republic in international scene specifically on the conducting of the First Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions on September, 2003 and the Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Conference of Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia on October, 2004.

During conversation exchange of views concerning the important international and regional problems of mutual interest including the possibility of organization of visit of the President of RK to Qatar in next year took place.

Qatari side invited Kazakh Leader to make official visit to Qatar in 2006.



DELEGATION OF PROMINENT PERSONS OF KAZAKHSTAN VISITED HOLY PLACES IN MEKKAH AND MEDINA

Riyadh, September 28, 2005 - Embassy
During the period of September 21-27, 2005 delegation of 180 prominent persons of Kazakhstan visited holy places in Mekkah and Medina for Umrah. Delegation included cosmonaut Talgat Mussabayev, Olympic Games Champion in Boxing Yermukhan Ibraimov and number of prominent scientists, actors and politicians.

The trip was organized by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev.



AMBASSADOR A. MUSSINOV HELD A MEETING IN JEDDAH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY

Riyadh, September 26, 2005 - Embassy
On September 25, 2005 Ambassador A. Mussinov held a meeting with the Deputy Chairman Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Jeddah Mr. Saud Aunulla. Kazakh diplomat was accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in Jeddah, prominent businessman Abdulrakhman Khaled bin Makhfouz.

Sides discussed the ways of improvement of trade, economic and financial cooperation on the regional and national level. Their agreed on holding of the event “Days of Kazakhstan” in Jeddah to boost relations and strengthen ties between Kazakh and Saudi businessmen.



YEMEN REPUBLIC HAS STRONG INTENTION TO DEVELOP COOPERATION WITH KAZAKHSTAN

Riyadh, September 20, 2005 - Embassy
On September 19, 2005 in Akorda Residence the Secretary of State of the Republic of Kazakhstan Oralbay Abdikarimov accepted Credentials from the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Yemen Abdul Elah Mohammed Khadjar.

Yemeni diplomat expressed his appreciation over the outstanding achievements of Kazakhstan in economic field. He added: “Our country has strong intention to develop cooperation with Kazakhstan in economic and cultural spheres.”

Ambassador mentioned the contribution of Kazakhstan in the improvement of activity of the Organization of Islamic Conference.

Yemen is the biggest importer of grain, industrial and agricultural equipment, and has the potential to export coffee, seafood, spicery and some tropical fruits.



KAZAKHSTAN DELEGATION BADE FAREWELL TO KING FAHD

Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Nurtai Abykayev has attended the funeral prayer of King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud as a special representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.



KAZAKH DELEGATION PARTICIPATED IN OIC MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE IN SANAA, YEMEN

Riyadh, July 1, 2005 - Embassy
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Rapil Zhoshybayev headed Kazakh delegation at the 32nd Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers on 28-30 June, 2005 in Sanaa, Yemen. He was accompanied by the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Saudi Arabia Askar Mussinov and number of Kazakh officials.

KAZAKHSTAN PRESIDENT MEETS ABU DHABI CROWN PRINCE

ASTANA, June 6, 2005 - Embassy
Today President of Kazakhstan Noursultan Nazarbayev has met Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Head of UAE Armed Forces General Staff Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan who is paying a private visit to the republic.

Noursultan Nazarbayev pointed out dynamism and full mutual understanding between Kazakhstan and United Arab Emirates. During the passed years Arab Emirates have become a reliable and constructive partner for Kazakhstan. It is known that Emirates authorities had granted USD 15 mln for construction of public premises in Astana.

During the talks the interlocutors touched upon the questions of assistance of Emirates institutes in realization of Kazakhstan’s Industrial and Innovative Development Strategy for 2003-2015. President Nazarbayev expressed warm wishes to UAE Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and invited him to pay an official visit to Kazakhstan.

In early May, 2005 Sheikh Mohammed set up delegation of Emirates businessmen to Kazakhstan representing the leading UAE companies as Mubadala Development, Abu Dhabi Securities Market, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Emirates Holdings, UAE Offsets Group and Etihad Airways. Their trip was followed by the visit of senior experts of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority in order to explore the investment climate and evaluate the investment potential in Kazakhstan.



KAZAKHSTAN AND SAUDI BUSINESSMEN HAD A CONSTRUCTIVE SESSION IN RIYADH

On May 2-3, 2005 the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Riyadh jointly with Saudi Council of Chambers of Trade and Industry organized Second Session of the Joint Business Council of Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia.

Kazakhstan was represented by the delegation of well-known businessmen with KazakhTelecom JSC president Khairat Karibzhanov in the head. The members of Saudi party were leading businessmen with co-chairman of the Business Council Dr. Abdurakhman Al-Zamil.

During the enlarged session Saudi businessmen were particularly interested in Kazakhstan pointing out territorial, economic, cultural and religious commonness of the two states. In this connection the Saudi party suggested carrying out a Week of Saudi Arabia in Kazakhstan. Both parties agreed on collaboration in this question. Ambassador Askar Mussinov and Khairat Karibzhanov commented upon the principles of the Message of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to the people of Kazakhstan.

The Business Council attaches great importance to obtainment of direct link between businessmen of Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia. The basic subject of the session was attraction of investments into Kazakhstan’s economy and increasing of Saudi export in Kazakhstan.

The Embassy of Kazakhstan organized a special exhibition devoted to the modern development of Kazakhstan.



AMBASSADOR A. MUSSINOV VISITED MUSCAT, OMAN

Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan A.Mussinov visited Muscat, Oman to held talks with the number of Omani officials on April 2-4, 2005.

A.Mussinov had meetings with the Minister of Industry and Trade Maqbul bin Sultan, Deputy Foreign Minister Badr bin Khamud Al-Buseidi and the Chairman of Omani Chamber of Trade and Commerce Saleh Sayed Al-Gatani.

They discussed the ways of further development of economic and trade ties of Kazakhstan and Oman as well as the matter of Kazakhstan accession to the World Trade Organization.



MAYOR OF KAZAKH CAPITAL VISITED KUWAIT

Kazakh delegation headed by the Akim (Mayor) of Astana O.Shukeyev visited Kuwait during the period of March 5-7, 2005 on the invitation of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED). Officials were accompanied by the Ambassador of Kazakhstan Mr. A.Mussinov.

Kazakh delegation held meetings with the Governor of El-Kuwait H.E. Musayed Al-Saleh, General Director of KFAED H.E. Badr Al-Khumeid and Chairman of Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry H.E. Ahmad Al-Kharun.

During the mentioned meetings O.Shukeyev conveyed the text of Annual Address of the President of Kazakhstan H.E. Noursultan Nazarbayev to the People of Kazakhstan - “Kazakhstan on the Road to Accelerated Economic, Social and Political Modernization” which was delivered on February 18, 2005 in Astana. Akim informed Kuwaiti side on the main directions of Kazakhstan consequent development as the ensuring of the sustainable growth of the economy and improvements in social field.

Mayor expressed appreciation of Kazakhstan over the financial assistance extended by KFAED for the development of new Kazakh capital. In particular KFAED provided grant of USD 10 mln. for the construction of building of Astana Mayor Administration.

KFAED expressed willingness to provide further assistance to complete the mentioned building and to take part in financing of a priority status project in Astana.



KAZAKHSTAN SENATORS VISITED SAUDI ARABIA

During the period of December 19-23, 2004 the delegation of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan headed by the Senator, Head of the Regional Development and Local Government Committee Kuanysh Sultanov visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on invitation of the Consultative Council (Majlis Al-Shura) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Senators met Chairman Dr. Saleh bin Humeid and members of the Commission of Parliamentary Friendship with Kazakhstan of the Consultative Council headed by Mohammed bin Ahmad bin Abdel Latif. Sides exchanged with their views on various questions of international policy, economy and security. Kazakhstan and Saudi MPs expressed their opinion on the necessity of further development of relations between the representative bodies of two countries.

Kazakhstan side confirmed the invitation of the Chairman of the Consultative Council to visit the inauguration of new building of the Senate in Astana in 2005.

Delegation visited also the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry to met Chairman Hussein Al-Azal and representatives of business circles of the Kingdom. Senators urged businessmen to invest in Kazakhstan economy and mentioned the internal legislation which provides with the great preferences and opportunities for profitable investment activity.

Kazakhstan delegation visited Historical Museum named after King Abdul Aziz in Riyadh and performed Umrah in Makkah and Madina.



FIRST SESSION OF KAZAKHSTAN AND UNITED EMIRATES INTERGOVERNMENTAL
COMMISSION FOR COOPERATION WAS HELD IN ABU DHABI


First session of the Intergovernmental Commission for trade cooperation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates was held on December 11-14, 2004 in Abu-Dhabi, as it was decided between the leaders of two countries during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Noursultan Nazarbayev to UAE this January.

Deputy Prime-minister of Kazakhstan, Co-chairman of Kazakhstan-United Emirates intergovernmental commission Akhmetzhan Esimov was received by the President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahayan, and submitted to His Highness personal message of the President of Kazakhstan.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahayan confirmed the interest of UAE in development of cooperation with Kazakhstan, in particular, in sphere of economic and trade, transport and communications, small and medium sized entrepreneurship.

Intergovernmental Commission discussed the wide range of issues of the development of economic, technological, commercial and cultural ties between Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates.

Special attention was paid to the extension of legal base between two countries. Both sides confirmed their intention to sign in the nearest future the number of agreements in the spheres of taxation, investment etc.

The decisions of Intergovernmental Commission concerning the further development of bilateral cooperation were finalized inthe Protocol of the First Intergovernmental Commission for trade cooperation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates which was signed by the Co-chairmen Deputy Prime-minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Akhmetzhan Esimov and Deputy Prime-minister, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahayan.



JUSTICE MINISTERS OF KAZAKHSTAN AND SAUDI ARABIA
SIGNED THE JUDICIAL COOPERATION AGREEMENT


During the period of December 11-14, 2004 the delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan headed by the Minister of Justice Onalsyn Zhumabekov visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on invitation of the Minister of Justice of Saudi Arabia Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh.

Officials have discussed the bilateral legal and justice cooperation issues, exchanged with their views and experience in the field of solution of problems such terrorism and extremism, illegal arms and drug trafficking.

As a result of the conducted talks and preparatory contacts of the experts, the Agreement on Judicial Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia was adopted by the Ministers. This document is expected to become a solid basis of interaction of legal bodies of two countries in the field of judiciary.

Both Ministers highly appreciated the significance of the Agreement and mentioned the importance of further consolidation of ties between the law enforcement bodies of Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia.

Kazakhstan delegation visited Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz University for Security Studies, Historical Museum named after King Abdul Aziz in Riyadh and performed Umrah in Makkah and Madina.
